Pride South Lanarkshire 2023
We were absolutely delighted by the public response to the area’s first Pride events which took place over the weekend providing a voice and welcoming space for our LGBTQ+ community. It was a historic day supported by a range of speakers including the First Minister, Monica Lennon, LGBT Youth Scotland, Unison and many more. With a 67% uplift in footfall in the Regent Centre and estimated visitor numbers in the region of 6,000 across the day, this inaugural event has the potential to have positively impacted many people across the area and beyond.
It was also great to see Hamilton feature positively on national news channels such as STV and Clyde One news. In addition to the Saturday event, we also hosted Drag @ The Townhouse on the Friday which was a huge success. Alongside this Mavrix bar hosted a hugely successful weekend of Drag, Hemmingway’s had Pride Karaoke and many more businesses got involved. It was also good to see the space in the Town Square being used as a hospitality area with Junkyard using the area as an outdoor bar, supported by Hamilton Racecourse with their benches.
We would like to thank everyone that got involved for their support and we look forward to supporting the development of Pride South Lanarkshire to ensure it becomes an annual event in the Calendar. We’ve loaded lots of photos of the day on our Facebook page to capture the events…check them out!
