Public town centre events survey:

In recent months, we have been conducting a survey aimed at gaining new feedback regarding the potential economic opportunities and impact of increased footfall generated by our community events in the area. Whilst we expect to attract an estimated 39,000 additional visitors to the town centre this year through events such as Hamilton Market, Gala days etc, understanding further information from the public is of great benefit in shaping future activities within the confines of our modest budget. (We received over 5% attendee response rate for this survey).

Summary of public survey responses:

Public feedback suggests very strong support for the events delivered, with many event attendees visiting the town from out with Hamilton, 28% and 35% who do not normally visit the area at all normally.  A very high 99% of respondents have stated that they spend on the event day within the town centre businesses (not trading at the market area) and a modest 26.3% of attendees have stated that they come back to spend after an event day after seeing a product or service.  The average in-town spend on event days stated across the survey respondents was £41. (Respondents were asked to provide spend info for town centre businesses for this survey and not to include any spending at the market). 

Whilst the survey provides feedback from a section of event attendees, and not all, the themes and results are clearly defined supporting us in understanding the current potential impact of our community events alongside future opportunities that can be created.

Footfall update:

We continue to monitor footfall performance across the area using our provider Place informatics. Year to date the BID area has recorded +2% footfall increase versus 2023. This performance is ahead of the reported national result as of September of -1% year to date. The areas in and around the former pedestrianised section of Quarry Street continue to indicate a positive increase, +3% yoy, potentially due to the current trial of free 30min parking. 

Quarry Street parking enforcement:

We have been made aware that the enforcement of the 30min parking time alongside requirement to park within the bays is set to recommence shortly.
