Taylors Fish

Hamilton town centre has more than 300 businesses – many of them family run. This profile catches up with Taylors Fish on Cadzow Street …

The business began in 1987. They pride themselves of offering produce that is sustainably fished from Scottish waters. That principle is fundamental to the family: “Selling from limited catches means there will always be fish in generations to come.

The types of fish in Scottish waters range from haddock, whiting, cod, hake, plaice, halibut, turbot and brill. The produce that Taylors sell is always seasonal – examples including sea trout, herring and mackerel .

As with so many businesses, they started to make make use of social media within the last year to help share updates on their offering …

The brown trout they sell is sourced from Lough Neagh – the biggest body of fresh water in the British Isles in Northern Ireland: “It is seasonal and delicious!” And when the season is right, you will also find fantastic Scottish crustaceans – langoustine and lobsters.

Looking for something special? “If someone is looking for something specific or a little different, if they phone the day before and leave a message on the voice mail, we will get back to them and let them know if we can get it or not!” Taylors also take orders via Facebook and Instagram but emphasise that because everything is fresh, they’re unable to guarantee ‘same day’ orders.

But don’t just take our word for it. Their customers are their best advocates – and they have some fab reviews …
