Christmas Light Switch on update
Due to severe weather over the weekend, to support public safety we activated our contingency plans in place to ensure a festive event could proceed versus full cancellation. We would like to thank the team at the Regent Shopping centre for supporting us with this change and the public that did manage to make it along for their support!
New rescheduled date – This Saturday (weather permitting)
We have been working on a revised light switch on since cancellation on Saturday. This has only been made possible through robust contingency planning and a great deal of tenacity to deliver this important event for the community. Given this is a rescheduled event we do not have the resources to produce another large event and as such there will be no parade and no market, except for a small number of Gazebos at the top cross. To facilitate this event safely, a full road closure is required, which will come into force from 09:30 to 17:00 on Saturday. The event is of course subject to weather conditions and as with all outdoor community events, can only go ahead if fully safe for the public to attend.

Join us this Saturday 30TH November to cheer on our town and honour our Hamilton hero, Stephen McGuire at the special pop-up light switch on event under the tree at the top cross on Quarry Street! The event hosted by local singing star William Boyle is supported by our very own Junior Play Café who will be helping us at the big switch on moment. Santa will be there, along with lots of entertainment on our community stage from 1pm to 4:30pm, leading up to the official light switch- on by our gold medal-winning Paralympian Stephen McGuire at 16:30. Whilst we won’t have our usual market or the parade this time, we’re excited to bring you this festive celebration, thanks to our dedicated Hamilton Our Town team who made it happen against the odds. So, come out and support our town centre this Saturday, shop local, and enjoy the pop-up light switch event under the Christmas tree!
